What We Can Learn From Frozen : Seeing on The
Beauty
Hans
Christian Andersen is a great story-teller I have ever known. Knowing that Frozen is mostly based on one of his
masterpiece, Snow Queen, I guarantee
that people rate this for almost five stars as
a-must-watch-fairytale-animation-movie-2013. Different with the other fairytales he has made, this film is
about to say that whether everything you did at the past were right or wrong,
you just have to be brave to take steps forward to be free from that shadow
then make an unexpected-bloody-good change toward the future.
Everything
related to certain story, has a certain path that everyone clung onto the
certain hope. We, as creatures having certain strength that somehow bring us to
damage or it is a key point how to
manage that strength to be something everyone loves. As we know that life is
about choice. One of favorite quotes from Henry Ford is “whether you can or
can’t, you are right”. It reflects a lot about taking decision to be positive
or negative. All is about our perception.
Changing
perception is not easy. The one i found from a book Happiness Inside, authored by Gobind Vashdev, leads me to think
that life is about how to create harmony in each of our breath: “The one who always choose to see on the beauty
actually is a lucky one, he or she doesn’t depend nor blame on the situation”
In
a line with that statement, in the film I just watched, Frozen, the same point appear at the Elsa’s character as the queen
of the kingdom that has the magic power to freeze all the things she touch
directly. You can read a review about this movie here. From the very beginning, when she was a child, unintentionally, she
harmed her sister, by using her inner power and then their parents separate
them away in order to protect the younger one from the magic power. One day,
they met again and the elder sister, Elsa becomes the queen because their
parents has died. The story began when they bandied words about the wedding
plan of the younger sister that came up so sudden with a guy she has just met
that day. Elsa couldn’t control her anger and used her power unpredictably then
everyone there at the kingdom know it and became frightened. She ran away then
everything she touched becomes ice and freeze. The sea she walked across became
ice then the winter apparently come suddenly unpredictably.
Elsa
was frightened with her own power. She always think that her power is
frightening and people will hate her a lot if they know. Since she was a child,
after she harmed her sister, she hid her power and always using gloves to
anticipate all the things that might be happened. She tried to abandon her
power, deeper and deeper. Until that day, she revealed herself and be the true
self of her own without any pressure and created her own kingdom in the north
mountain. For years, she felt like in the jail and didn’t feel comfortable with
it. Here the song she sang on the film that reflects. Anyway, I love listening
to this song.
LET IT GO
Sequence Performed by Idina Menzel
The
snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not
a foot print to be seen
A
kingdom of isolation
And
it looks like i’m the queen
The
wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t
keep it in, heaven knows i tried
Don’t
let them in
Don’t
let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal
don’t feel
Don’t
let them know
Well
now they know
Let
it go. Let it go
Can’t
hold it back anymore
Let
it go. Let it go.
Turn
away and slam the door
I
don’t care what they are going to say
Let
the storm rage on
The
cold never bothered me anyway
It’s
funny how some distance makes everything seems small.
And
the fears that once controlled me, can’t get to me at all.
Its
time to see what I can do.
To test the limit and break through
No
line no wrong no rules for me
I
am free
|
Let
it go. Let it go
I
am one with the wind and sky
Let
it go. Let it go
You’ll
never see me cry
Here
I stand
And
here I’ll stay
Let
the storm rage on
My
power flurries through the air into the ground
My
soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And
one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m
never going back
The
past is in the past
Let
it go. Let it go
When
I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let
it go. Let it go
The
perfet girl is gone
Here
I stand, in the light of day
Let
the storm rage on
The
cold never bothered me anyway

Back
to the story. One day, her sister, Anna, came to Elsa’s kingdom on the North Mountain to
pick her up back to the real kingdom to change the season back to the summer
like the initial. But then, Elsa still on her own belief that there is something
frightening inside her, she is a disaster for that kingdom and there is no
reason for coming back to the kingdom. Here, she was still focused on the black
clouds she has passed over the years. The silver lining came when her sister
sacrificed herself to help her elder sister, Elsa realize that everything is
about seeing on the beauty. After all, she could create the kingdom in a full
of happiness nuance and lived happily with her younger sister.
Well, there is a simple and meaningful lesson
here:
No matter the situation, no matter the
strength, no matter the things we’ve been through, the most important thing is
seeing on the positive sides, looking deeper and deeper at the beauty, hug our
negativity just like friends and we’ll find the harmony :)
